Halloween today and a year ago
Sigh…It’s Halloween and I’m sitting on my desk at home….working
:(
But, as I said, I wanted to upload some photos from Halloween 2004 last year (Perth) – yeah guys…it is in my memory as if it were yesterday…was a great party and I miss you all!
Hope all of you have a great party tonight!
Here the awesome party at Matt&Steve’s house last year. The pics are not good quality because I must save my space here, but anyway…enjoy the mood from Halloween in down under 2004:
EDIT: I moved all pics to my gallery.
Birthe and Corinna won the special prize (the Australian street sign “KEEP LEFT”) for the best costume! They dressed as Matt and Steve (the two guys on the first picture)…sorry that everybody knows your names now *lol*
What are your costumes this year????
Changes on :: missy cola ::
Hey guys,
my coffee break today was a bit longer, so I changed the template for this design here.
I changed the font color & size:
I like the gray for the font better; the black was too strong in my opinion.
Is the size now too small for you? …is somebody almost blind here? Veit?
…let me know!
Would you like “verdana” as font better? I wasn’t sure if I should change this font here…but I like it somehow…only don’t know how readable it is on different (bad quality flickering) monitors… please tell me. This is “verdana” by the way
Just for you to compare it with the other one. What do you say?
Comment: This is OLD. I already changed the font. To compare the following part is written in the old font (not exactly in the same old size…I cannot show it better):
I changed the sidebar organization:
I still want to remove the underlines of the links…don’t know how yet.
And I changed the comment section!
How do you like it with the new comment system? Before it opened a new website when you clicked on “comment”, now it is integrated in my main site. Do you like it better?
And I changed the outlook almost everywhere
Yeah, my perfectionism came through I guess. But I think all multimedia students have this gene in them…haha!!!
I use the browser “Mozilla Firefox”, so I hope that this site works with different browsers as well? I haven’t checked it (bad bad I know) but tell me if you see strange things or if something isn’t working! Please! Thx.
supplement:
Ahhh, the design looks a bit different on the MS Internet Explorer. There are ugly little dots around the main writing field
I mean, they are bigger and just different ini design as with Firefox. I know that blogger recommends Firefox.
And the head title looks different; it doesn’t fit in one line…
So please use Firefox! Is much better browser (the best) anyway – why?
Guckst Du hier
Broken
…car. Mine. Was driving today and felt a weird shake and sound. Thought it’ll be better not to drive any more. Then I thought maybe it was a marten who chewed on some of my cables?
Nooo, after I brought it to the garage of my confidence
they said a few hours later that there is a part of the cylinders broken; something has to be changed.
Hmm, my car will be repaired till tomorrow afternoon. I hope it won’t cost me much.
This is the first time after four years of owing it that something broke. Good car
Not only the car is “ill”, me too, I think…My throat was very dry in the morning and I felt the flu will visit me soon =) Then I made a hot milk with lots of honey.
Hope it is not becoming worse. I cannot miss a single day without working and writing for my thesis
In the end I decided not to go to the Halloween Party on Friday or/and Saturday (yes, there are two and I’m invited to both of them). Too bad, but I don’t have time anyway and among people who spread out their bacteria (he he) I’ll definitely have the fall-flu that is going ’round at the moment.
A shy friend from THE Halloween country of origin said to me a few days ago, Halloween is only “drunk fun in a costume”
Ok, na dann!
Yeah, it is! Why not? I’ll miss it this year :/
Just remember the crazy one last year in Perth
Maybe I’ll upload some pictures from last year here? Will be hard to choose the best ones though…I’ll see if I have time.
Would be nice to know what YOU are doing for Halloween this year…I mean, what costume you’re going to wear or whatever your plans are…(or simply nothing? running away? hiding?)

Good morning,
I said that the photos of the fish dinner from last Tuesday would follow – here they are:
Fried bread cod (my dad said it’s name is coated cod? Don’t know…you know what I mean ;-))
Together with the fish we ate fried potatoes (from our garden). A little bit oily but good together with the fish:

We used a new fry pan this time (titan-coated) and it was superb
Nothing burnt (like last time the skin of the fish).
My skin really says thank-you-thank-you-thank-you for all the good fish and lots of Omega-III. Normally I must take omega-III pills against my dry skin…now my skin says *yeppee*!
The dinner was yesterday.
After it rained the whole night, last night, together with hail and storm it was beautiful and sunny today.
So I came back from grocery shopping and saw that super nice color of the sky and the leaves of my oak tree. I ran inside to grab my camera to show you these pictures:

I didn’t edit it in photoshop; it is like it was…beautiful. What do you think?
Here two more where you can see first a look into the garden and second where my study room is (nice view out to the oak) and where the other rooms to front are. Again: no editing!

What else?
My best friend Anja (yes, the same name and the same crazy as I am, also blond but green eyes and one year older than I ;-p) visited me today. She was in Egypt for a week for scuba diving (she has a nice tan) and wanted to show me her holiday photos. I said that I don’t have much time because of the thesis but we didn’t see each other for a loooong time so we had a quick coffee & cake chat in the afternoon. I made another apple cake with apples called “Boskop” from our garden. You can see our freaky coffee-&-cake-session now..haha:

The apple cake is even better than my last one [see 1st post]
When I have more time I can write the recipe(s) down here; somebody interested? Hmm, we’ll see…
I like food, did I already tell ya…lol. Maybe I should combine it with photography…together it is food photographer
My dad said the last time, when I took the pics of the fried fish that I will be starved when I’m done with the photo series…no, I wasn’t. Since I started last year in Perth with documenting my meals (I know I wasn’t the only one *wink-to-Andyman*) I never stopped doing it. Don’t ask me why; I like to do it. I just like it, because (maybe) I like FOOD!
Okay, enough from that…talk to you later. Bed time now. Cya & gn8
Haett der Hund nicht ge…
…schissen, haette er nen Hasen gehabt (German saying).
Ok, all vegetarians please read the next post, but not this one here, ok? Thanks.
My mom wanted to try something new and bought ready prepared wild rabbit meat (frozen).
It was not too bad, although it was a little bit hard not to think of sweet rabbits during eating…anyway, I ate it.
After the meal my mother asked me how it was and if I bit on a piece of bullet. A W-H-A-T??
Yes, you’ve got it right…a piece of bullet! You ask why? Click on the following pic:

Sorry that it is in German, but those who don’t understand, here my English translation for the fat red letters on the package:
“Hint: Wild rabbits are shot and in spite of the greatest care there might be pieces of bullets in it.”
*gulp*
Ok, no more wild rabbits for me please and thank you mom, that you asked me, when I was done with eating *grrr*
Okay, topic changes now from rabbit to FISH!
Congratulations to my dad! Why? Because we’ll have cod the next weeks for lunch and dinner
:)
Yesterday he came back home with six fresh caught cods and one (same fresh) ale, today he came with three cods. You must know that it is raining like hell here since a few days and it’s pretty windy as well…and now think of my third post…(best weather).
Remember the small nut shell of boat with that we went out to the fish traps? He did this the last days alone (steering and doing get the nets out and all) and said that he almost went overboard because of the rough weather!! (*gg*)
But for Thank God (or whoever)!…he made it
and we’ll cook some of the cod tonight – yummy!
Here the proud proof:

…and a closer view – Ladies & Gentlemen, I proudly present German cod:
(I said NOT for vegetarians!!!!!)
Pictures of the dinner tonight will follow
Last but not least another photo that has something to do with fish (& food).
This was my dinner last night. The paste on the bread is hummus (weaving to Megan!), I got to know it in Australia last year, through Megan. I love it now
Did I already say that I love food? No, ok – now you should know.
Well, now it is your turn! A game…yeah!! What a great idea

! Guess how this fish is called!
! It is typical for the (Baltic sea) coast here, especially for the towns Eckernfoerde and Kiel!
! And the smoking changes its original name to a new name!
! But be careful of the trap – you might think of the false one!
! You may take the telephone joker or the 50:50 joker or ask the Google audience!
If you think you know it, please make a comment on this post.
The winner will get a special postcard of Germany signed by my dad the great fisherman and me the great daughter who can eat heaps of fish
Excluded from the game are family members (sorry Schwesterherz) and people from Eckernfoerde and Kiel (too easy for you guys, sorry).
3-2-1-GO!

Despairing – Where is recharger for my digital camera battery – arghhh – frustrated – cannot find – eat chocolate instead – feels better – why does it rain all day today – feel
again – need more chocolate – good I bought heaps at “Famila” recently – glad – break is almost finished – need more coffee – back to work – STOP.
Green Cola Drink
Hmmm, I started my day today with this nice healthy drink.
Recipe: 6 kiwis, 200g of grapes, 1 lime fruit, 8-10 fresh mint leaves => puree everything => quick – healthy – delicious – and good for brain power that I need at the moment
Don’t forget the fresh mint leaves! They give the drink the special note!
Mhhhh, I started the day kind of late
because I went to bed LAATE! Damn! I wanted to change this
And then I didn’t hear my alarm clock ringing after 5 hours of sleep…so I slept 2 hours longer. Mistkack! (English F***)
I also cleaned the whole tiled floor of my house; that means kitchen and the entrance hall connected to it, the main hallway and the bathroom. It was very urgent and I didn’t do it well enough (I mean with soap and stuff) since we’re done with renovating.
What else? I got my telephone bill, but strangely enough it is for my old telephone number of my old flat where I moved out last month!?!
Shit, I must check it…aahhhrrrrgh!
Good thing, I sold a book on amazon.de. Yes, I put a lot of my books on their platform to get rid of them (stuff I don’t need any more). I think, for selling books amazon is better than eBay, because you pay less fees and you can make a fixed prize and don’t pay for the different prize levels like on eBay. And amazon supports you with the mail costs; I get 3 Euro extra to mail my book – isn’t that nice? Normally, if the book is not too heavy I pay only 0.85 Euro for mailing it
Good deal then, huh?
Bad thing is, I must look where the book is (??) and bring it to the post to mail it….NO TIME!!! *cry*
Ok, stay calm (I speak with myself sometimes..haha)…six weeks left for my thesis. I’ll make it.

Seufzend in geheimer Klage
Streift der Wind das letzte Grün
Und die süßen Sommertage
Ach, sie sind dahin, dahin!
Nebel hat den Wald verschlungen,
Der dein stillstes Glück gesehn;
Ganz in Duft und Dämmerungen
Will die schöne Welt vergehn.
Nur noch einmal bricht die Sonne
Unaufhaltsam durch den Duft,
Und ein Strahl der alten Wonne
Rieselt über Tal und Kluft.
Und es leuchten Wald und Heide,
Daß man sicher glauben mag,
Hinter allem Winterleide
Lieg‘ ein ferner Frühlingstag.
(part of “Herbst” by Theodor Storm)
Yes we’ll have autumn quite late this year. The summer was coming back in September, so it was still warm and sunny till the beginning of October. But now summer’s over. The gorgeous autumnal colors indicate that. Every day I can enjoy the beautiful changing colors of the African oak that is in front of my study room. My grandfather plant this oak in 1970 (or 1971, my dad was not sure) in this small front garden and now, after 35 years of wind and weather it is pretty tall and sooo beautiful! If you look closer (or click on the pic) you’ll see me on the picture
In the background is the house where I live in at the moment:
This is the view from my driveway, just to see the nice colors of the leaves from this side
Well, must go on with my work now…
Yesterday I went to bed pretty late….again. I will try to change my night working rhythm the next days/nights. But it is like it always was – I am a night worker. I like the pleasant silence of the night though…no cars are going, everybody’s sleeping, nobody is calling & nobody wants something from you. Only bad, because the days seem much shorter when I sleep into the day…
Ok, I will make a cappuccino (bought some new espresso at “Famila”
last Wednesday) and must go on with my thesis work.
Emergency No.2 – Wilma & Maren
[photo removed] My friend Maren is in Mexico at the moment. She lives and works in Akumal, that is close to Cancun. I’m really worried about her, because the hurricane “Wilma” is worse than expected.
I just read some articles about it and saw some photos online and they made me feel uneasy. Here is a photo of Quintana Roo/Cancun. Maren is in Valladolid, she said that is in the middle of Yucatan and safe. I hope so! But Cancun and the surrounding area will be destroyed badly. I hope everything is ok with her!

State of Emergency – Famila is da
Ok, some won’t know, but “Famila” is not German word for family, it is the name of a big supermarket (chain). (But for sure it will imply the word family with it). We have now one “Famila” in my town and the citizen of Eckernförde behave like we’ll have the 3rd World War in the next days. The parking lot was more than over full and I’m sure the new supermarket is big enough for all 23000 inhabitants of Eckernförde who were all at the same time at the big opening last Wednesday.
Ok, my father and I were there as well, but only because I wanted to behave like Germans do: Just try to get as many free products or give aways as possible
Yeah!
Normally I don’t mind about such things, but yesterday…I wanted to know it! And we just finished lunch…good time to grab a coffee for free or let somebody give me a rose to say ‘Welcome to our new supermarket (we don’t have enough in this small town) and please feel free to try all our free catering”…Yes, definitely I will…I escorted my dad through the crowd.
Damn, what do you all think, that you won’t have something to eat the rest of your life? Don’t you have a home-sweet-home or a work?
[was middle of week, Wednesday as I said, during day time...ok, Germany has about five million of unemployed people, some of them are here probably].
To my dad’s astonishment – we steered towards the first espresso bar, where we got a very nice espresso with or without milk foam. Yummy, first goal = reached!
Next, only a few steps ahead, we came to the wine area.
Yummy No. 2!
Unfortunately they didn’t have Australian wine as free test wines =) but anyway…we tried a red Germany “Dornfelder”, a white “Burgunder” (burgundy) and talked to the would be wine-grower. I complained about the more than bad (small) range of Australian wines (haven’t seen one of them in Oz) and that even other smaller supermarkets in this town have it though.
Yes, I am good in complaining *hhok*
Only five steps away, the stand from the famous “Niederegger Marzipan” [© J.G. Niederegger GmbH & Co. KG · 23560 Lübeck] tempt us to try their offer: marzipan cappuccino! Sounded strange to me, but was incredibly tasty!! The prize was not good though…four Euro for a package with 10 cup fillings. Hmm…my cup of cappu is so hot that I take it with me, that my dad and I can look around more in the big big supermaket for our next ‘attack’.
Oh, I forgot the special offer of “Alpia” chocolate [© Stollwerck GmbH, Stollwerckstraße 27 - 31, 51149 Köln (Porz-Westhofen)] at the beginning,
right after the espresso. The special deal was 20 bars of chocolate for 5 Euro…quick calculating…damn, that is 25 cents each! Gimme all!!!
No, not really, but I took…like…ehm…12 or not more than 15.
Ok, we were already almost at the end of our “shopping tour”…in front of the check-outs were loooong lines (of course). We got at the end of one, for us shortest, line and I saw the woman in front of us having one of these very delicious
[©Masterfoods, 41728 Viersen] little chocolate sweets in her hands. Where was that from? I haven’t seen this stand? My dad saw my nervousness in my face, I started to sweat but he released me from my slobby *lol* He said, just behind us was a guy giving free examples of this nice little chocolate thingy and we just went by…oh really?…*running back*…Yeah – I got two! Snickers and Twix.
*glad cola*
In the end we had a match, a competition, with the older couple standing in front of us in the line. We decided to take the next line to the right of us and asked: who will be at the check-out first? Was funny..hehe. This couple were giggling about my dad and me because we calculated every step of every move in our and in their waiting line.
But finally we won (of course-haha) and the big surprise was: there was a second woman af the check-out who put all our bought things in a bag. WOW! Haven’t seen this (service) in Germany at all!
But, for all people who want to go shopping from now on only here at “Famila” – a big SORRY, because it was only for the day of the opening
:(
Why?
Famila, you were so close to get a new customer – me!
Yes, I saw this service in Australia the first time and you can get used to it so easily.
They do it there without any problems. They even have a friendly smile on their face when they do it!
But unfortunately Germany has to take more lessons about “how can I make the customer happy that he’ll come back by oneself”.
Bye Famila – and thanks for the gifts =)
