Free fixed phone calls to Germany and abroad?

I found something very useful on the couchgelaber weblog that might interest especially my German friends, if you don’t know it yet.
Stephan from couchgelaber mentioned the service called “peterzahlt.de” (means: Peter pays) where you just have to type in your home phone number (it works only with fixed phone lines, not mobile phones) and the phone number of the person you want to call (also available for some other countries [@Maren: USA as well, also mobile phones, juchuu]. A few seconds later your home phone rings.
A voice tells you that you will know see weather information and some ads on your screen. Then it puts you through. You can talk for 30 minutes for free. It will disconnect you automatically, but you can always reconnect. The only thing is that you cannot close the browser window during the call and you cannot put another browser window on top of it, you need to leave the peterzahlt.de window open for receiving the advertisements.
Good thing that you use your fixed phone that is (I guess) wireless…so you can walk around. You don’t need to click on the ads, as other services wanted it some years ago (I remember web.de did this 10 minutes free call thing, but you had to click on the ads every 20 seconds…annoying and confusing…).
No headset that is plugged into your computer and no need-to-sit-on-computer during the call. Wow, I think it’s great. I already called phones in Germany and (of course, hihi) the States. In the States you can call also the mobile phone, in Germany only home phones. Works fine.
Grrrr…..unfortunately the service is overburdened (it was foreseeable) since today. I wanted to write this “hey there is this great service” post already a week ago….damn.
Now, there is a message on the site that says they already connect 100.000 people per day and they need more server power. It means that the service is paused, but they will be back latest in mid September, when they have the new servers running. So, keep watching the site where “Peter zahlt” !
Hey, if anyone from my friends in Hamburg is tonight at the Altervergnuegen in Hamburg…I will be there as well….working for deltaradio….but incognito, in casual clothes…would be cool to meet up!
By the way, if you see a guy in jeans wearing a black shirt, you need to ask him if he is the “deltaradio cash kumpel” and if it’s the right guy, you get 1000 Euro cash! Immediately. Honestly!! That’s the game that we are promoting tonight and the next days…
