In the wrong place at the wrong time

The (world-) famous Australian crocodile hunter Steve Irwin (don’t say you don’t know him) died today through a stingray attack!

Death through a stingray attack is very seldom; in Australia it only is the third accident with stingrays where someone died.
Australia lost its craziest inhabitant, who was probably better known than the prime minister…(I guess you don’t know his name, don’t you?).

Well, Nathan and I went to the Australian Zoo in Queensland in 2004 where we (also) watched a show of and with Mr. Crocodile Irwin. I knew his TV show “crocodile hunter” from the German TV, but the live show in his Zoo was not that fascinating (my opinion). Of course, television can make more out of everything In the wrong place at the wrong time (pic)

But, now, the most famous man of Australia, as it is said in one of the online newspapers, died doing what he loved best…being together with dangerous animals. If you want to read more about it, you can follow the story online in the German magazine “Spiegel” and in English on the website of the australian “Herald Sun” or choose one of the several “croc hunter is dead”-articles at news.com.au.

When I was in Australia, I went swimming…accidentally with reef sharks and a ray at the west coast, with a stone fish at the east coast (that was scary), with 4 wild but harmless dolphins at the east coast in Queensland (that was awesome!) and probably lots of other creatures that I didn’t see In the wrong place at the wrong time (pic)

On land I saw two spiders, one on our tent in Byron Bay at New Years Eve and this one here in front of a hostel in Exmouth. Click here, it is better to see on this photo.

The only time I got (I’d say ‘badly’ *g*) hurt was when I walked through the jungle-forest in the wet tropics in Cairns. I stepped on a poisonous leaf…yeah a LEAF, you heard right!!!!! It hurt so bad that I only could limp to the next rock to sit down. Thousands of tiny stings/spines were in my foot but you couldn’t see them and therefore you couldn’t pull them out. The tour guide said that it’ll hurt for about 3 weeks, that’s normal – 3 ??!! Well, there were 20-30 people in our group, some of them even walked barefoot, but I had my flip flops (thongs) on and twist my ankle right in that moment when the leaf is right there to “attack” me. It’s always me…

Well, in the end I think I could have had a worse time in Oz…*g*

I know it, I know it!!!…
John Howard.
(Sorry, I’m an annoying smart ass… plus have to admit, that I’ve never heard of him until my first day at Australian University :blush_tb: )
Wonder how they mourn Mr Irwin in Oz… maybe his funeral was comparable to Lady Di’s or at least Mosi’s (Den hat man schon fast vergessen, oder?)
Awesome spider pictures though… 8O – Did I ever mention that I’m extremely arachnaphobic?… Really, my biggest fear and panic in the world. Was quite a problem in Mexico.
The stingrays on the other hand I always found quite cute. We actually found one on the shore at a full moon snorkeling, stroked him and named him “Ray”…
