Some news
Okay, where should I start?
I had trouble with a copy shop in Kiel last week. That was not really fun.
In the print version of my master thesis were twelve pages (83-95) missing. I saw that when I came back from Maine and after I got a copy of the print version (because I send the .pdf file to a friend in Kiel and he brought it to a copy shop to print and bind it…I couldn’t do it in the States on time…was too complicated).
Well, I called the copy shop first. I wanted to talk to the woman whose name was on my receipt. A guy answered the phone and asked in what circumstances I want to speak with her…???? Ehm…I said…that I want to talk with her about a service that she made for me. After a loud thought of that guy he gave me Ms. Holst. I told her the problem and she failed to see her mistake; she only said that it can’t be that the printer (the technique) made a mistake and it felt like she didn’t believe me. She was very unfriendly to me. I don’t want to bore you with the whole conversation where she behaved very bad.
I then drove to Kiel to the shop to meet her and solve the problem. My friend, who was involved in the problem, came with me. The woman and her husband, who both guide the copy shop, they ignored us for more than half an hour!
The shop was full of students who used the printers. When they were ready to pay they thought that we were first and wanted to stand behind us in the line, but Ms. Holst always said: “they have to wait!” Ok, after almost 40 minutes of (dumm-herum-stehing) useless standing around I asked her if she would be so friendly to talk to us about the problem. She shouted that I already know (from our phone talk) that we must wait till she will be done with her work for the other customer…
It was the “how” she talked to us and “how” she acted what made me very angry!
I payed almost 100 Euro for their service and they made bad work by printing my (for me and my future important) master thesis…and the best is, they didn’t even concede that they are wrong! Arghhhhh!
It was a verbal fight until my friend opened his mouth to tell the lady her version of what happened when he gave them the CD-Rom with my thesis-file. His words changed the situation because the woman could remember him and that she separated the print in not only one print, but two prints on two different machines! Aha! There was the mistake, but she still had the opinion that it was not her personally fault…..(weak) WOMEN!!! Arghhh! I said that it was could have been the technique that the printer mabye just stuck and didn’t print out the twelve pages….NO, she said, that is impossible…..
Yes, nothing can be ever wrong with the super computer intelligence and humans are unfailing. I knew that we would never come to a good end.<
Finally, the woman got a better mood and regret her hard words but in the same sentence she said I must understand her and their business (and their costs if we would print the three theses copies again).
When we found a way out of the annoying stuff and we were ready to print everything again, the woman said that she doesn't have enough paper (100 gramm paper). I thought that she plays with me...unbelievable!
There was so much more stuff going on till I left, without my new prints!
I came back two days later and had to mess around with the (not better but a little bit quieter) husband of the woman. He wanted the easiest way for him and printed three new prints from my .pdf. He wanted me to count the pages and proof if pages are missing. I thought it can't be my job to count 340 pages and look through them all. It must be the job of his quality management what he isn't doing (what I found out after I asked him). It would be so easy just to adjust the setting on the machines to show the printed pages on the display. But the guy said he didn't set the machines up with that data....I asked myself WHY? *shaking the head*
In the end he said that he can't do hard cover binding, that is the job of his wife (who wasn't there any more). I should wait half an hour at least more for her coming back. No way! I said that I will take the print to another copy shop to bind it there, and I wanted him to pay me the money for the binding back because I already payed it. He did without arguing any more (yeah, I got him). I saw that he forgot the blank pages in the beginning and the end of my thesis...and asked him about that
He smashed 20 or more blank pages on the counter and said "that should be enough". I took my six pages that I only needed and left the shop with a good bye and no answer. I stopped at the next copy shop and after 10 minutes my three copies of my thesis was bound. The guy showed me how to do the binding and I can say, it is pretty easy that I could do it. The guy from the other shop must have had two left hands or just wanted to provoke me.
Sigh. What a day. What a bad service. Yeah, welcome back in Germany was my next thought.
Sorry, but I am living in a country where the word service must be reinvented...some say "Germany's service gap" or "service wasteland" or "No service please-we're German".
I had enough from these stupid people. Interestingly, I found out that another friend of mine had trouble with them as well and that he never went to the shop again. Ha! Now I only hope that my final mark doesn't suffer from this "pages missing and reprint" story
Ok, enough from that. Changing to something more amusing
My master defense is on the 2.2. at 2pm ![]()
I am normally very nervous with things like that…exams…and also presentations. When I feel safe in the topic it is ok though, but I think a little nervousness is quite normal.
A friend let me know about something that would help against this nervous behavior with examinations. SEX.
Yes, honestly, some British science people found out that sex lessens nervousness, even after a week! The stage fright is supposed to be the worst if the person didn’t have sex two weeks before the test, exam or whatever.
The full (German) article is published by Spiegel here.
Unfortunately my last one is more than one week ago - damn! Hon, can you please fly over before next Wednesday? *sniff*
What do you think about tarot cards? I got a book with cards to my birthday last year.
Yesterday I found it and was curious to tried it out at last. I can only say that I wasn’t very happy with my ‘answer’. Has someone experience with tarot cards? Please tell me…also if you know some good links about it. I mean serious web sites. I want to know more about it.
That’s it from me for now…I send a warm hello to the States, Canada, Australia, Norway, Spain, Portugal, Holland, England,… and of course Kiel, Hamburg, Berlin, Cologne, Munich, etc.<
I think the dust in my blog is removed ![]()
Wow, I wrote a lot...and it already is a short version - hihi...maybe not very interesting but now I don't have to tell everyone the story of the bad bad copy shop
Stay tuned!

To whish a happy new year is a little bit late I guess (anyway: Happy New Year!) but I must apologize that I did not write in my blog during my stay in Maine… First, there was no time (because of my thesis-stress) then I was travelling with my boyfriend in Maine and now I am already back in Germany. A good message for everyone who still doesn’t know: my master thesis is done done
and I am now in preparation for my master defense (colloquium).
Missy Cola Blog….hmm…I don’t know but I feel a little bit lost in my own blog…I haven’t written for a long time and now I don’t know where to start. Maine was great and there is probably so much to tell about it…but I have an excuse: I must prepare my presentation for my master defense
However, I don’t know if anyone is reading my blog still…my web site statistics for my blog don’t look very good
One certain fact: I AM BACK!
