Picola Quiz 3 and New Blog Items
Hey my dear friends of gaming,
Before I forget it, I have a new Picola Quiz for you:
For newbies:
Click on the image and you’ll be linked to the Picola Quiz photo that you should guess. If you think you know what it is, write your answer as a comment to this post. But you need to give a very exact answer to win. It can be tricky, better think twice.
Good luck!
I also want to introduce my new blog items:
You find the first one in the left sidebar/column under the “Home/Current” link.
It is a wordpress plugin that shows a random proverb, saying or idiom. I collected them for a longer time and just found the right plugin to show them now on my blog easily (instead of creating a new page). I think it is a nice idea, because I, and maybe you, too, like to know proverbs, sayings or idioms in German and English.
I don’t know if they are all translated correctly, therefore it would be wonderful if you, who recognize a wrong one, please let me know!
If someone knows a good source of sayings and proverbs in english and german or wants to help me filling up my database, I appreciate your support =) Please send me an email via the “contact” form. Thanks a lot!
You can see the second new blog item when you scoll down the sidebar a little bit more.
The name is “planetcola’s Countdown” and it shows the next upcoming important dates and holidays. This (also wordpress) plugin is a little bit buggy and I don’t know if I’ll keep it. But as long it is there, you’ll see (my personal) upcoming dates and holidays. Something to count down for
White (Bloody) Sunday
Easter finished today with the catholic holiday called “White Sunday”. I didn’t know this before I watched a TV show for children this morning, where it was explained, hehe. White Sunday is the day where people mostly have their the communion.
I hope you enjoyed Easter. Last week just went by very fast. I wanted to write a post here earlier, but always something came in-between. I worked every day together with my dad, renovating the new house. I had badly muscle ache, and my upper back hurt badly (massage for Cola not before May 30th..too sad). I wasn’t really used to such hard body work. No wonder, because I worked a lot in front of my computer the last months, sitting, not often moving. What a nice change of use of my body =) At least I do some kind of workout and am building muscles…ha, strong powerful Cola
Today is ‘White Sunday’. Instead of white it was very bloody for me. Why? My dad’s friend brought him some of his fresh cought herrings and cods today. Very nice! We all waited for the herring season to come and now our bay seems to be full of herrings, great! Here a pic of the fish before:

and after we cleaned and gut the fish:
.
Yes, we gut the fish, which means that it was my first time to get in bloody and slimy contact with Mr. Herring and Mr. Cod (oh, there were a lot of females as well). I spare you with detailed (bloody) photos here, but of course did I picture everything =)
I thought that it was time that I need to learn and do this, because I like eating fish and if you eat animals you should also be able to prepare them…err yeah, or whatever, I did it and my friends know that I don’t even like to touch raw meet or slimy fish.
It wasn’t as bad as I expected it. I cut off the head, cut into the a**h*** (yes, that were the directions given by my dad) and cut the body til the head, gut the entrails, remove the fish scales, and wash out the whole fish. A little bit sadistic Cola is. Lol. Just kidding.
In the end, we fried the herring. It looked like this (called ‘Brathering’ or fried herring):

Then we pickled the herring, put it in two big bowls where it needs to stay for about 6 days. The cod came into my freezer.
YEEEHHAA the fish season started !!!
Ok, that was my bloody sunday, how was yours?
Frohe Ostern

Happy Hoppy Easter to everyone!
My friend Line from Munich (south) will be here (in the north) over the holidays and I’ll see her (hopefully). Today we (my dad and I) will make an Easter fire in our garden. I try to make some good pictures, if it’s worth it. In the evening there is a probably bigger version of an Easter fire at the (south) beach with live music and supposedly enough food, yeah I hope so =). I will go with my best friend Anja and her friends. I hope that it is not too cold, because temperature here is only 10 degrees (C) at the moment (noon). Tomorrow, on Sunday, my family and I will have dinner together, same on Easter Monday. But that’s it, we don’t celebrate Easter that much and I think I’m too old for easter-egg-hunt
No, not too old *g* but nobody here to hide eggs for *snief* … I will rather help my dad with renovating, what I did the last days as well.
Have a nice long Easter weekend and relax or enjoy the free time with your family and your loved ones!

Today I helped my aunt with looking for a new computer for her.
There is a long story to tell about my aunt and her computer problems, but I better don’t bother you with that. The only important thing is that she has a computer since three years and she has trouble with it since three years. Yeah, it was a long uncomfortable way for my aunt to get in contact with computers. Now she has enough with the daily digital terror.
Her niece, that’s me, studied something with computers and knows a lot more than her about all that technical stuff. Too bad
So it was my job today, to consult her in computer-buy-decisions.
We went to the computer store in my town (the only computer store here). They had about eight different computers. The cheapest started at 299 Euro. My aunt was interested in a HP for 499 Euro. The details on the little paper-price-thing were: 160GB hard disk, 512MB RAM, Multi DVD, operating system WinXP, and so on. I wanted to know the manufacturer of the hard disk and the other parts, but the guy from the computer store said that he doesn’t know them and even HP doesn’t know, the only way is to open the computer and look inside. WHAAHAT?
Yes, you heard right, nobody knows, that’s why they cannot describe the computer parts better on the advertising paper, e.g. “Samsung SP1614N hard drive”, they can only say “160GB hard drive” !!! But me, as always very interested and annoying curious customer (haha), I want to know whose company or what brand is behind the parts, that I buy altogether as an expensive computer for 500 Euro.
No way, the guy explained it like that: HP produces tons of computers like this one (ok, I knew that before). They start to put Western Digital hard drives into their computers….and when they are out of Western Digital’s, they put, e.g. Samsung hard-drives into it. But because they don’t know what hard drive is exactly in which machine/computer they just put the only general details on the package, which is “512MB RAM”. The name for this whole process is: (M)ASS PRODUCTION.
I thought I didn’t understand him completely and asked again, if he really needs to take his screwdriver, open the computer and look inside or put things out to see who is the manufacturer of each computer part. You won’t believe me, but I heard a clear YES.
Damn!! No, I couldn’t believe it. This was totally new to me. My aunt was very astonished as well, although computers are always something totally strange to her, but she felt uneasy because I was not happy with the guys explanations. I checked that it’s too late for April Fools and asked him if he has all the data in his computer in the store. Nope. They know exactly the same as the customer can read from the price tag.
I said to the guy, that this procedure was different a few years ago (when I bought my computer) and he said, no, it was always like this. Then I remembered that I never bought a complete computer from a store like this. I bought my first computer at the local discounter called “Ald”i *g* and build my second one from selected single parts by myself.
But then…..I thought of the discounter stores here, like Aldi, Lidl, Plus, etc. who sometimes name the manufacturers on their flyer’s….Ha, I thought I got him now….finally
The guy replied that they use only one sort/brand of hard disk for example, so they can name the only manufacturer then easily. Ahaaa….hmm. The guy cross-eyed very badly but with this computer topic he beat me.
In the end, we gave up. Or better: I gave up. The cheapest computer had bad components and the HP one was way too professional for her, with 160GB hard drive and Multi-DVD-Burner what she will never need. Her old computer had only floppy-disk and no CD-ROM, which was ok for her beginner use. She only needs the computer for writing emails, writing stuff in word, outlook and excel and that’s it. She is new with using the Internet and she doesn’t even have a digital photo camera, that a 9in1 card reader would make sense. But nowadays it is impossible to buy computers for beginners. You pay a high price if you want to enter the digital world….or you know someone, who can build together a computer that fits your special needs. That will be the only solution. The only problem is that she lost her trust in people building together computers by themselves (because it’s their hobby or whatever), because she is very disappointed from the person who sold her the last computer, that she had trouble with from the first day of use.
Why not switching off all computers of the world and eat self-made banana ice cream, lay back and watch the beautiful crocus flowers that are in full bloom around this time of the year….at least here where I live and enjoy the spring with its first warm sunbeams on one’s face…
Hmm…the banana ice cream is very good and made in not even a minute. Wanna have the recipe?
Choc Poem on Sunday
A Magic Moment I Remember
A magic moment I remember:
I raised my eyes and you were there.
A fleeting vision, the quintessence
Of all that’s beautiful and rare.
I pray to mute despair and anguish
To vain pursuits the world esteems,
Long did I near your soothing accents,
Long did your features haunt my dreams.
Time passed. A rebel storm-blast scattered
The reveries that once were mine.
And I forgot your soothing accents,
Your features gracefully divine.
In dark days of enforced retirement
I gazed upon grey skies above
With no ideals to inspire me,
No one to cry for, live for, love.
Then came a moment of renaissance,
I looked up- you again are there,
A fleeting vision, the quintessence
Of all that’s beautiful and rare.
(Alexander Pushkin)

Busy, love-news and PiCola’s solution
Hello everyone,
I am sorry that I am late with the solution for the last PiCola quiz. Last week was a busy week with job search, preparing applications, working, networking (that can be time-consuming, whaaa), backing up my puter, answering a lot of emails and lots of other computer related stuff (btw…My new galerie is almost done).
My hon said that I should do more exercises, he doesn’t want a computer nerd as girlfriend…grin. And he always cares for my health and what I’m eating and that I shouldn’t forget eating (what happens quite often). Sigh, yeah, this stressful time will be over soon hopefully, at least when he will be here visiting me!! Yeah, he comes to Germany that means from end of May til unknown (ok, probably 3 months) it could happen that I don’t write too often in my blog because I have better things to do…haha!! Ok, still about two months to go…No, I won’t leave you alone…I will try my best…hiding with my laptop in my bathroom (have wireless Internet) to blog around the clock =) *silly-me*
…drum-roll….The award for the right answer of the second PiCola quiz goes to….Schwesterherz! Congratulation. She is right, that my picture shows the blossoms of “Schneegloeckchen” (snowdrops), just in the opposite view (normally they hang), because I mirrored the picture and retouched it so that is was more difficult to guess :). To see the original picture click here. I took the picture one day after the beginning of spring, what was the second day without snow here…now you know why their name is “snowdrop”, because the snow just dropped off them before they show up…bigsmile. Now, they are already open and there are lots of them around, looks very beautiful and spring-like, yeah.
Unfortunately I don’t have a new game for the next week, I think I was a bit too quick with announcing the regularly game that is not very regular at the moment. I hope that you’re not disappointed
I will post a new one, asap I find more time.
I don’t feel like writing about boring or annoying stuff that happens around me, it is not really changing from day to day anyway, so I better go and come back with something that earns to be written down here. My head is just full with other stuff at the moment.
I wish everyone a good week!
