103.1

Two days ago, I put 5.83 liters of (super) unleaded gas for 8.10 euro in Cola’s “moose-car” tank.
Yesterday, at November 22 I had to work in Kiel, which is about 60 km return.
My gas tank was nearly empty; I drove with the last drops and my fuel lamp was on for a day already. This is a usual Cola drivinig behavior. :)
On my way to Kiel I drove by three gas stations, but the prices have been too expensive; I didn’t want to pay 1.39 ct/liter (Euro) (2,06/liter or 8,24/gallon in US $). Therefore I tried to reach my work without filling up my tank. Yeah, adventurous!

I made it to Kiel, but I knew that I need to get gas before I drive home. I won’t make another 30 km with my car.

Well, it was late, almost midnight, when I was done with work. I didn’t feel like driving an extra way to a cheep gas station. (I like the independent gas stations.) It was a cold night with light rain, and I wanted to go home as soon as possible.

I started driving and thought that I am safe if my car breaks down, because I have a five liter canister of fuel in my trank. Just in case.
The roads were lonely and I drove 90km/hour steady (to save the last drops of fuel, hihi).
Then I reached the 100 km ‘border’ (with only 5.83 liters!) and I felt that my car probably will stop soon. My female intuition was right. Only a few more kilometers my car made a weird bubbling sound and my gas pedal didn’t work anymore. This happened at a reached driving distance of 103.1 kilometers. The car was only rolling with the last breaths. Damn, close before I am home, I thought. I could have made it….maybe….
Well, luckily there was a bus stop a few hundred meters ahead, to the right side of the road.

With the last power of my car, I rolled exactly into the bus stop lay-by. Funny, I thought. It reminded me on my last fuel-less drives, for instance with my friend Bob (remember?), where I always made it exactly to a gas station next to the gas pump.
After that lay-by there was nothing to stop other than the middle of the road. It was like my car was supposed to stop exactly there.

I smiled, grabbed my 5 liter canister out of the trunk, filled about 2-3 liters in my tank, and hoped that none of the driving-by people stop to ask if I need help. After a short shaking of the engine I could start my car.
My thoughts during driving home:
My car is very good on gas. Not even 6 liters per 100km. Very good milage for a car with a weight of 1115 kg (1.2 tons)….or just a good driver, hehe.
Yay! :queen:
