At the moment, my “heart-leaf” (rotfl, German joke) mr.Natey resides in “The Green Mountain State” called Vermont. Vermont is a small state between New York (south) and New Hampshire (north). Maine is next to and north-east of New Hampshire.
Vermont’s largest city is named after the famous sox “Burlington”. 
Just kidding. Burlington actually is “the smallest U.S. city that is the largest city in its state”, because it only has a population of about 39000. The town is, amongst others, famous for the ice-cream Ben & Jerry’s (that you might have seen in Germany as well) who started their business at a gas station in Burlington.
Anyway, my lovely NateMan lives in a smaller town up north-east, called Johnson. Here’s a photo how it looks there during this time of the year:

mr.Natey is one of the few artists, not coming from one of the top universities in the States (Harvard, Stanford, Yale, etc.), who still got a full scholarship at the art residency Vermont Studio Center, which is “the largest international artists’ and writers’ Residency Program in the United States. Each year the Studio Center hosts 600 outstanding emerging and mid-career painters, sculptors, new genre artists, printmakers, photographers, poets, and writers (50 per month) from across the country and around the world.”
WoooooW! My hon is one of them. Proud Cola. 
If you’re not from the art-scene, you may wonder what an (art) residency is (good) for. The Vermont Studio Center explains it very well in their mission statement.
Their intention is “To support dedicated artists, by offering distraction-free working time and space, the companionship of creative peers, and the inspiration of distinguished mentors in a non-competitive, international community that honors the making of art as a communication of spirit through form.”

Hat denn keiner eine Verbesserung beim Laden meines Blogs bemerkt????

Ich fragte euch (TechnikPros) auch, ob es noch einen besseren und lade-technisch schlankeren Bildbetracher gibt, als das zap_imgpop plugin, das ich schon sehr lange nutze.
Soll ich jetzt deuten, dass keine Antwort bedeutet, ich habe schon das beste Bildbetrachter plugin gefunden und im Einsatz?

Lately I mentioned that I worked on my blog’s programming to slim my site, especially for my visitors with modem. Since I have a fast internet connection I cannot compare and see, if the speed really improved since I worked on it.

Gleich dreimal heute durfte ich das Fäkalwort in den Überschriften der Damenblogs meinem kleinen reader Fenster lesen. Was mir auffällt: nur in den weiblichen Blogköpfen scheint man solche (natürlichen) Dinge einfach beim Namen zu nennen. *g*
Hat man euch denn nicht gelehrt, dass man Scheisse nicht sagt, sondern es macht? Was für ein blöder “Lehrspruch” eigentlich…wenn man dann das Buch “Das Parfüm” gelesen hat, dann wundert man sich, dass die Menschen damals, als es noch keine WCs gab und man einfach auf die Straße geschi**sen hat, keinen Hehl drum gemacht hat. Die Menschheit ist zwar zivilisierter geworden, aber irgendwie auch verklemmter. Leute können von ihrem Wochenende erzählen, dass sie sich (aufgrund von übermäßigem Alkoholkonsum) die Seele aus dem Leib gekotzt haben (mit allen Details, durch die Nase, etc.), aber wenn man von Stuhlproben spricht, dann verschlägt es einigen die Sprache.
Was raus muss, muss raus!

I was very amazed, when I found a blog called “heissescheisse”, which is written in English. Heisse Scheisse is German and means hot shit. The author of that blog is an American living in Germany. It got my attention and do you know what? I found “my” topic about the different toilet styles (wash down and washout pans) that I wrote about a few days ago mentioned in that blog. Crazy!!
So, you see, it is the women who don’t have a problem to just name things that are just natural.
Have you read the book “Perfume-The story of a murderer”? Back in that time when there weren’t toilets, it was just normal to lift the skirt and shit on the roads. Nobody made a big deal about it. Nowadays, mankind is more civilized, but somehow uptight (‘verklemmt’?) as well.
People can tell me their puke stories from the weekend (because of too much alcohol of course), and they tell you every detail about it (through the nose, etc.), but if you talk about how to do stool samples with wash down wc’s, some people just gaze at you in total astonishment.
Everything that needs to go, must go!

ich bin weiterhin am basteln, um meine blog performance für modem nutzer zu optimieren und habe folgendes zusätzlich geändert:
- zufalls-headerbild entfernt. es gibt jetzt nur noch ein headerbild und das wird manuell alle paar wochen gewechselt. reicht doch auch, oder?
- das plugin wp-polls, mit dem ich ab und an umfragen durchgeführt habe, wird deaktiviert, wenn gerade keine umfrage aktiv ist.
- meine style.css-anweisungen habe ich weiterhin verbessert, wobei mir diese seite hilfreich war. ich bin ja kein profi, aber immerhin habe ich meine css-datei von 6,79kb auf 6,51kb reduzieren können. weitere hilfreiche css-optimierungstipps von euch profis da draussen werden gerne angenommen.
- ich habe die ladezeit für 56k modem surfer nochmals von 33,77 sekunden auf 29,50 sekunden drücken können, was mir aber immer noch zu lange dauert. die ladezeit wurde geprüft mit websiteoptimation.com, was in meiner webdeveloper toolbar im firefox mit dabei ist.
- auf dieser webseite ergibt mein ladezeiten check allerdings 15,72 sekunden für 56k modem user. das klingt schon mal besser, aber was stimmt nun?
- beim ladezeiten check von 1und1 erreicht mein blog auch 14,68 sekunden, was eher dem wert der vorherigen seite entpricht. mit dsl 1000 (meinem momentanen speed) lädt meine seite in nur 0.86 sekunden. ha!
- (habe es mir erlaubt einige der großen bekannten blog zu prüfen. gegen die bin ich ein schnelllader.)
- ach ja, habe mein hintergrund css image (das hellgraue muster) gegen eine reine farbangabe (das dunkle rot) getauscht. ob das viel bringt, weiss ich nicht.
- blog bisher von 141333 bytes auf 122572 bytes reduziert
- css file nochmal um 681 Bytes kleiner geworden. habe nach eigenhändischer arbeit doch noch mal diesen css optimizer drüber laufen lassen.
liste wird evtl. noch erweitert heute…
eine frage an die heavy user da draussen: gibt es etwas schlankeres (auf das skript bezogen) zum bilder (als pop-up) öffnen als das plugin zap_imgpop das ich (bisher sehr gerne) nutze?

i am still working on a faster blog load for my dear visitors with modem. today i changed the following:
- random header picture function removed. now you only see one header image, which i will change every few weeks.
- the plugin wp-polls, which i used a few times to do a little survey, is only active, when i have an active poll running.
- i optimised my style.css. i am not a pro, but at least i could shrink the file from 6,79kb to 6,51kb. additional tips are always welcome!
- the loading time for 56k modem surfers went down from 33,77 sec. to 29,50 sec., which still is too long, i think. i checked the loading time with the site websiteoptimation.com, that i have in my webdeveloper toolbar in my firefox browser.
- at this site (german) the loading check shows 15,72 seconds for 56k modem users, which sounds much better, but how do i know which tool is right?
- with the loading time check from the german webhoster “1und1″ my blog loads in 14,68 seconds. this is similar and closer to the value i had before. with dsl 1000 (that i use), the blog loads in only 0.86 seconds. ha!
- (i checked some large and famous blogs on their speed. compared to them i am a fast-loader)
- oh, and i changed my background: i removed the background css image (the light gray pattern) against simple color (dark red). i don’t know if this will matter much concerning site speed.

- css file 681 bytes smaller than before. after some hand work i also used this css optimizer.
later today, i probably change other things as well…

nicht, dass es jemand falsch versteht, aber mein blog ist auf speed, sozusagen…denn ich habe leider erfahren, dass zwei eifrige leser meines blogs nun doch kein dsl bekommen können und somit leider weiterhin mit einer modemgeschwindigkeit von um die 44k surfen müssen.
da mein blog ja recht bilder-lastig (smileys plus photos plus buttons in der seitenspalte) und die ladezeit mit modem einfach zu groß war, habe ich ein wenig aufgeräumt und mein blog entschlackt. jedenfalls auf der hauptseite.
- es gibt nur noch 5 angezeigte beiträge auf der hauptseite.
- die buttons unter der überschrift “the cola planet” sind auf die “about” seite in der unternavigation verschwunden.
- die angezeigten bücher, die ich kürzlich der seitenleiste hinzugefügt habe, sind reduziert worden auf nur noch die aktuellen bücher, die gerade gelesen werden.
- das plugin, das die beiträge vor einem jahr anzeigten (seitenleiste) ist wieder rausgeflogen, da ich ja nicht täglich beiträge geschrieben habe, zeigte es oft nichts an. daher überflüssig.
- das “get recent comments” plugin, das die letzten kommentare in der seitenleiste anzeigt, wurde auf die neuste version aktualisiert und sollte nun schneller laden
nun überlege ich, ob so eine “tag-wolke”, wie ich sie in der seitenleiste nutze, um meine kategorien angezuzeigen, mein blog länger laden lässt? hat da jemand ahnung? so von wegen datenbankabfragen und so? telekommander?
für die, die mein blog mit modem besuchen: sagt doch mal bescheid, ob ihr ne schnellere ladezeit bemerkt oder lasst mich wissen, wie schnell oder langsam mein blog für euch lädt.
von meinem schatzi weiß ich nur, dass es knapp ne minute dauert, bis es vollständig geladen ist. puhh…das ist ne harte geduldsprobe.
edit (23:26): ganz vergessen…was kann ich noch tun, um mein blog zu entschlacken??

my blog is on speed, because i know that two of my loyal readers (waving to hannah and natey), cannot get the dsl internet line in their living area, therefore they still use their slow modem connection, which is about 44k/s. very slow!
my blog is quite “heavy” concerning its amount of images (photos, smileys, buttons in sidebar) and scripts, and the page loading time is very bad for modem surfers. i remember my slow modem times from santa fe… therefore i cleaned up my site to enhance the speed!
- there are only 5 posts shown on the main page.
- the buttons that were listed in the sidebar under “the cola planet” are not on the sub page “about”.
- the listed books, which i lately added to the sidebar, have been reduced to only the recent books that i read. the rest is on the sub page called library. you will find the link in the sidebar.
- the plugin that showed my posts from a year ago (in the sidebar) got kicked out, because i didn’t write an entry every day, so it often just showed an empty line. not useful.
- my “get recent comments” plugin, which showed the last comments in the sidebar, has been upgraded and should load faster now.
now i wonder if my so called “tag-cloud” that i have in the sidebar to show my post categories, makes my blog load longer? anyone an idea? concerning data base queries? telekommander?
for the people with modem: please let me know, if you recognize a faster site load or how fast or slow my blog generally loads.
my love told me that my site almost need a minute to load completely. oh…that really taxes your patience.
