Gemimtes Umweltbewusstsein - Faked Environmental Consciousness

Mein Papa liegt die Umwelt sehr am Herzen, könnte man meinen, denn heute habe ich es nicht geschafft, ihn dazu zu bringen, doch bitte mal die Autoscheinwerfer anzustellen, als wir bei schlechtem Wetter im halbdunkel im Auto unterwegs waren. Meine Argumente, dass ich keine Lust darauf hätte, von einem anderen Autofahrer übersehen und damit angefahren zu werden, da wir kein Licht anhaben, und ich keine Lust hätte jetzt schon zu sterben (drama-queen, i know), brachten leider gar nichts. Er sagte einfach nur nein. Ohne weitere Erklärung, warum er denn so konsequent ohne Licht fahren will. Es war zwar erst halb drei am Nachmittag, aber aufgrund des schlechten Winterwetters war es schon ziemlich dämmerig und alle anderen Autos fuhren ja halt auch mit Licht. Der Himmel war ausserdem wolkenverhangen und dazu regnete es noch. Und im Regen fährt man doch sowieso immer mit Licht. Ihr etwa nicht? Erstens sieht man selbst schlechter man wird auch schnell mal von anderen übersehen. Ach ja und da war ja noch die Dämmerung. Also, wie gesagt, es war schon ziemlich duuhuunkel!
Keine Chance, mein Papa bleibt ein alter Sparfuchs. Tagsüber wird einfach nicht mit Licht gefahren. Die Batterie wird geschont. Ich denke jedenfalls, dass das sein Grund war. Genannt hat er ihn mir jedenfalls nicht. Das mit dem Umweltbewusstsein kann ich mir natürlich nun schön einreden.

My dad cares about the environment. I could think that because today I could not convince him to turn on his headlights during our drive through town while it already was almost dark at 2.30 in the afternoon. Additionally, the weather was bad with a little bit of rain and an overcast sky that made me feel as if it already is early evening. I had a few arguments for driving with headlights on, like that I don’t want to be overseen by another driver or that I don’t want to die already (drama queen I know), but none of my words seemed to “touch” him. He simply said no. Without an explanation, why he likes/wants to drive with no lights. But every other car drove with lights on. I also always drive with lights on when it rains, how about you? Firstly I cannot see as good in rainy conditions and second others can’t see me as good either! Well, as I said before, it already was getting daaarrrrk!
No chance, my dad will always be a penny pincher. During day time a car does not need to drive with lights on. It saves battery life. Anyhow, I think it was the reason, which he never told me. Surely I can persuade myself into thinking it was just his environmental consciousness.
