I am so relieved that I found the (stupid little) mistake why my comments page didn’t show up. Gosh! I could not turn away from my blog code before finding that error. I searched google and the wordpress support pages, but nothing helped me for my problem. Of course not, because it was my own code mistake. But if you don’t know where to look for the mistake, it takes a bit longer as there is not only code to check, but also plugins to deactivate and reactivate.

In the end it was this code snippet:

Now something for the smart ones under us: where is the mistake in the above code?

P.S.: And because life is good when code just works, I felt like a little design change…a very small change…some fresh blue instead of pink (because I love the ocean, and I miss the ocean), a new header font and rearrangement of date and categories underneath the headline. Yep, can stay like this for a while.

Craze, no wonder that I didn’t read your comments here for quite a while. My comment function is broken and I cannot figure out how that happened and how to fix it.

I saw that my CSS was not valid, so I spend some time today to eliminate all those 40 errors, phew! Valid code now, but still, the comment function remains broken. I guess that wasn’t it, huh. When you click onto “Be awesome & leave a comment” the comment form doesn’t open. Come here you dirty little code (Kot)…NOW!

I also realized that you probably cannot vote at my new poll if you’re using Firefox (I’m using 10.0.2). The radio buttons are simply not clickable. Arghhhhh!! It works with the Internet Explorer (but shouldn’t it be the other way around? I hate the IE). The poll I’m using is WP-Poll by GamerZ. I have used this nice plugin/tool forever with no problems and want it to work with FF, but I’m using an older WordPress version, maybe that’s it? :{

Now that I wanted to work on the blog, GoDaddy’s server is down. Gimme a break! I cannot count how often their servers are down. COUNTLESS times! How farking annoying! Well, for the record, the server that my site is on was down today on 3/8/2012 from approximately 9:30pm to 9:47pm (EST).

Okay, now…who has an idea how to get my comments page back? It probably is a tiny little code error…but I wouldn’t ask if I were able to find it. Oh – yes, I understand, haha, you would not be able to leave help in the comments, because…haha, ok, understand, how about via twitter or old school email?
Any tips and help is very much appreciated!

I was too optimistic. My blog has now transferred from one registrar (GoDaddy) to the other (namecheap), but the latter wasn’t such a great help. I don’t know if anyone has noticed it, but my blog was offline for A-L-M-O-S-T A W-E-E-K!!! Although namecheap promised to have no or very limited downtime if I used their FreeDNS. Ha, as if.
In fact, whatever namecheap told me (in five different support chats) was wrong, because nothing worked and in the end GoDaddy solved it for me. It was a very simple error; the DNS was set wrong (and I knew it, but namecheap didn’t understand sh$t of my problem). Ok ok, I should not bash my new registrar already, but their (chat only) support really sucks. Let’s hope I don’t have to deal with them too often.

Now I really want to make the right decision with my new hosting provider, because that’s where it is important that my site is running strong and reliably 365 days out of 365 days. Ok, here I am dreaming again.

I must say, I never really had any problems with GoDaddy, besides the fact that I cannot view/use/maintain my website at home because of the known GoDaddy+Wildblue+Mac – problem. Their phone support is very good. And I called them quite a few times. They are always very friendly and mostly helpful. Too bad that we have shitty Wildblue Internet, which doesn’t work together with GoDaddy on my Mac. But since we cannot change the internet provider, I have to change my hosting.

Well, now that my blog is finally up and running with namecheap as new registrar, I will look into moving to a new webhost. I only need to decide between the two that I have in mind…stable*host or host*gator…

Why is it so difficult to choose the right webhost? Why are there 99.8% bad ones out there? All-inkl.com, if you read this, please please offer abroad payment methods like paypal or similar, so I can move my sites back to you. (heart) Until then, I have to swim with the sharks it looks like.

As of now, February 9, I initiated the domain transfer to namecheap.com. I have changed the domain name server from my old registrar (godaddy) to the new (namecheap), which should insure that my site has almost no downtime during the process. When this is done, I’ll connect the site with a new hosting provider.

Who knows, maybe the new hosting provider, which is the more important part than the registrar, will screw it all up as well? There are so many ways how one can screw up. You never know what you get. That’s the world we live in.

Tonight we celebrate a little bit. The heartman submitted his phd-Thesis (Doctorate) and the missy is already very proud that and how he has endured the last, today exactly, four years writing that research paper with all those (mostly ridiculous) problems he had to deal with at the university in Perth Australia. Finally, he/we can close THAT book and move on with our lives.

We were planning on going to the movies to watch “The Grey”, but missed the show and are now watching “Rise of the Planet of the Apes” on (rental) DVD.
When I was younger I was kinda scared of the first “Planet of the Apes” movie. (*g*) Let’s see how I cope now – all grown up (you’d think, but I don’t).

Argh…always when you need the site to work…it doesn’t. As if I don’t already feel I am cut off with GoDaddy and Wildblue. Thank you very much for making my life even harder.

I never had problems with my previous hosting provider (all-inkl.com) in Germany, but oh well; they didn’t accept to pay via paypal and that’s why I am now stuck with less good options in the same price level – like (m)ass-hosting providers.

If you are a regular reader you might have noticed that the quantity of posts has picked up. – Yes, I missed blogging and have spent way too much time in other networks that start with F and finish with book. I realized that I am way happier when I blog instead of wasting time on F-book. So, I closed my account and returned to my blog, which will be seven (7!) this year!

One reason why I haven’t been blogging very often in the last few months is that, back in Australia I was way too busy with my 3 jobs, and later even just with that one job. I also thought I don’t have much to talk about. Now here in the US, I have difficulties blogging from home, because our internet provider (Wildblue) plus my hosting provider (godaddy) plus being on a Mac means I cannot access my blog; it is literally not there. I get an empty page. Strange, but true. So, I have to take my blog to another internet spot in town (hej, we live in the country at the moment…) to be able to blog.

I wanted to wait it out until we move to an area with better conditions, but as you may know, I’m too impatient. If I’m not on facebook any longer, I want to fill my blog with stories. Therefore I decided to MOVE my blog to a new provider. I decided to move my domain to namecheap.com and my hosting to…probably either hostgator.com or inmotion hosting.

My blog might not be reachable for some time, but downtime should be minimal.

Soon more from missycola and her life on the colaplanet. Yay!

Die regelmaessigen Leser haben es wahrscheinlich schon bemerkt; es gibt wieder mehr zu lesen auf planetcola.com. Ja, das liegt daran, dass ich gemerkt habe, dass ich viel zu viel Zeit im F-Book verbracht habe und somit habe ich es einfach mal zugemacht, das F-Buch. Ich habe gemerkt, dass mit das Bloggen fehlt und dass es mir viel mehr Spass macht als das stundenlange “Zeitvergeuden” auf z.B. jenem F-Book, von daher bin ich nun zurueck in meinem kleinen feinen Blog, dass dieses Jahr schon sieben (7!) Jahre alt wird.

Ein Grund warum ich in den letzten Monaten so wenig geschrieben habe, ist, dass ich in Australien mit 3 Jobs, und selbst nachher mit nur einem Job einfach nicht die Zeit gefunden habe, nebenbei noch zu bloggen. Jetzt in den USA ist es mir von zu Hause nicht moeglich zu bloggen, da ich mit Wildblue (Internetanbieter) + GoDaddy (Webseitenbetreiber) + Mac keine Verbindung zu meiner Webseite bekomme. Klingt eigenartig, ist aber so, und auch bekannt. (Natuerlich streiten beide Parteien alles ab.)
Somit muss ich mein Mac Laptop immer ins naechste Dorf schleppen, um dort das Internet zu nutzen, bzw. mein Blog zu beschreiben.

Das hat jetzt ein Ende! Nein, meine Geduld ist nun zu Ende!
Ich ziehe um…vielmehr mein Blog. Die Domain zieht um zu namecheap.com und der neue hosting Anbieter wird entweder hostgator oder inmotion hosting. Zuallererst zieht aber nur die Domain um.

Es kann also in den kommenden Tagen passieren, dass das Blog zeitweilig nicht erreichbar ist.

Aber keine Sorge, denn ich bin bald wieder (und dann uneingeschraenkt) da, juchee!
(klopft mal auf Holz fuer mich; ich hab hier grad nix greifbar; danke!)

Still und leise sind wir ins Neue Jahr gekommen. Hier wird nicht geknallt und geboellert, und wir waren dieses Jahr irgendwie recht muede und erschoepft und haben es einfach nur in die naechste Bar geschafft, um dort mit ner Freundin ins neue Jahr hineinzuessen, -plauern, und ein wenig, aber sehr gesittet reinzufeiern.

Haetten wir schon ne eigene Bleibe, haetten wir bestimmt eine schoene Hausparty gehabt. Nun; die gibt es vielleicht dann beim naechsten Mal. Bis dahin haben wir hoffentlich auch schon einen kleinen Freundeskreis in unmittelbarar Umgebung aufgebaut. Aus Erfahrung wissen wir, das sowas Zeit braucht. Sehr viel Zeit. In Perth hat es ja auch gute 1.5 Jahre gedauert. Seufz…sich in Geduld zu ueben wird von Jahr zu Jahr anstrengender. :o)

Und dann noch: Mein Bloghosting laeuft in Kuerze aus und ich hatte kurzzeitig die Ueberlegung, diese Seite hier vielleicht nicht um ein weiteres Jahr zu verlaengern…aber dann habe ich daran gedacht, wie der Name Planetcola eigentlich entstand…und wer hat schon seinen eigenen Planeten, wo man machen und tun kann, wie man/frau lustig ist?
Ich koennte natuerlich nun auch ueberlegen, zu nem anderen Hoster umzuziehen…damit ich endlich wieder von zuhause bloggen kann; nur habe ich noch keinen gefunden, der mir durchweg gefaellt (preislich sowie auch qualitativ). $12 pro Jahr sollte mir mein planetcola dot com doch schon wert sein, oder?

Ich habe Blogweh. Oh du schreckliches Blogweh!!!
Mir fehlt das Bloggen und das staendige Herumspielen mit code und Funktionen.
Ach ja, und die Interaktion mit (momentan nicht vorhandenen) Kommentatoren…(haett ich fast vergessen und musste kurz vor Abschicken des Eintrags noch schnell eingefuegt werden. Grins.).

Heute war mal wieder so ein Tag. Ich bin wieder zurueck bei meinem Coladesign, und es kribbelte mir in den Finger, das Design mal wieder zu veraendern. Change is good. Aber ich schaffe es einfach nicht, auf Dauer mit einem fremden Designkondom zufrieden zu sein. Mit dem heutigen Ergebnis meiner Blogverschoenerung bin ich zufrieden. Schau’n wir mal, wie lange.

Ich habe versucht mein Blog zu wordpress.com umzuziehen, aber leider wurden die Kategorien nicht uebertragen. Dann dachte ich an Blogger, aber es sieht so aus, als wenn die Googler keinen Import von WordPress Blogs anbieten. Dann habe ich mit Posterous angefangen…das ist quasi so ein Miniblogsystem…man kann code aendern (fein fein), aber da hoert’s auch schon auf. Nix mit header-Bildchen oder sonstigem hochladen. Na klar, man hat ja eben keinen echten eigenen webspace.

Nun, es fehlt mir, mich der Welt mitzuteilen. Ich habe Blogweh.

Ach, und ich habe immer noch keinen neuen Laptop (die Qual der Wahl und das budget ist klein im Moment).

Ich habe keine Ahnung, wer hier ueberhaupt noch mitliest, da ich keine tools mehr mitlaufen habe, die mir das anzeigen koennten, aber ich hoffe mal, es gibt noch wen, der sich an meinen Zeilen erfreut.

Entweder habe ich bald nen neuen Laptop oder wir haben ein neues Zuhause mit nem anderen Internetanbieter, mit dem ich endlich mein Blog via Mac ansurfen kann. Dann sieht meine Blogwelt schon wieder ganz anders aus.

Und weil ich grad so motiviert bin, gibt’s endlich auch mal wieder Fotos zu sehen. Vom Laptop auf’n USB stick und dann hier in den PC tower gesteckt (was’n Aufwand).

Wie ich ja bereits im letzten Eintrag erwaehnt habe, kann ich mit meinem Powerbook (Mac) und dem Internetanbieter (Wildblue) meinen Blog nicht weiter beschreiben. Entweder ich hole mir endlich mal ein neues Laptop (I miss you Windows) oder ich mache ein neues Blog auf (klingt nach Arbeit und dennoch zahle ich weiterhin fuer diese Domain).

Also, ich guck mich mal nach dem Lappi um. Bin grad nicht up to date was gut und zu empfehlen ist…das letzte Mal als ich einen kaufen wollte, hatte ich den Dell XPS 15 irgendwas im Sinn.

Hmm…der Toshiba meines Papas (den ich ihm ausgesucht hatte) hat nur ganze drei Jahre gehalten (ging 4 Wochen nach Garantiezeit in die Knie und die Werkstatt ist immer noch dabei ihn zu reanimieren, wenn die nur wuessten, was wrong ist).

Also, welche Marke ist zuverlaessig? Welches Modell ist momentan zu empfehlen?

Ich suche etwas im 13″ Bereich, klein genug zum Reisen, gross und powerfull enough zum photoshoppen und Videos schneiden/bearbeiten und skypen und browsen gleichzeitig. Hohe Aufloseung waere mir wichtig, damit ich nicht so viel am Bildschirm scrollen muss. Mattes Display waere natuerlich toll, wenns das ueberhaupt noch gibt? Ja genau, die eierlegende…ihr wisst schon. Seufz…

Recherche, here I come…
