Have you ever noticed girls who set their handbags on public toilet floors, then go directly to their dining tables and set it on the table?
Happens a lot! It’s not always the ‘restaurant food’ that causes stomach distress. Sometimes ‘what you don’t know will hurt you’!

Mom got so upset when guests came in the door and plopped their handbags down on the counter where she was cooking or setting up food. She always said that handbags are really dirty, because of where they have been.

It’s something just about every woman carries with them.. While we may know what’s inside our handbags, do you have any idea what’s on the outside? Women carry handbags everywhere; from the office to public toilets to the floor of the car. Most women won’t be caught without their handbags, but did you ever stop to think about where your handbag goes during the day.

‘I drive a school bus, so my handbag has been on the floor of the bus a lot,’ says one woman. ‘On! The floor of my car, and in toilets.’
‘I put my handbag in grocery shopping carts and on the floor of the toilet,’ says another woman ‘and of course in my home which should be clean.’

We decided to find out if handbags harbour a lot of bacteria. We learned how to test them at Nelson Laboratories in Salt Lake , and then we set out to test the average woman’s handbag.

Most women told us they didn’t stop to think about what was on the bottom of their handbag. Most said at home they usually set their handbags on top of kitchen tables and counters where food is prepared.
Most of the ladies we talked to told us they wouldn’t be surprised if their handbags were at least a little bit dirty.

It turns out handbags are so surprisingly dirty, even the microbiologist who tested them was shocked.

Microbiologist Amy Karen of Nelson Labs says nearly all of the handbags tested were not only high in bacteria, but high in harmful kinds of bacteria. Pseudomonas can cause eye infections, staphylococcus aurous can cause serious skin infections, and salmonella and e-coli found on the handbags could make people very sick.

In one sampling, four of five handbags tested positive for salmonella, and that’s not the worst of it. ‘There is faecal contamination on the handbags’ says Amy. Leather or vinyl handbags tended to be cleaner than cloth handbags, and lifestyle seemed to play a role People with kids tended to have dirtier handbags than those without, with one exception.

The handbag of one single woman who frequented nightclubs had one of the worst contaminations of all. ‘Some type of faeces, or possibly vomit’ says Amy.

So the moral of this story is that your handbag won’t kill you, but it does have the potential to make you very sick if you keep it on places where you eat. Use hooks to hang your handbag at home and in toilets, and don’t put it on your desk, a restaurant table, or on your kitchen countertop.

Experts say you should think of your handbag the same way you would a pair of shoes. ‘If you think about putting a pair of shoes on your countertops, that’s the same thing you’re doing when you put your handbag on the countertops.’
Your handbag has gone where individuals before you have walked, sat, sneezed, coughed, spat, urinated, emptied bowels, etc!

Do you really want to bring that home with you?
The microbiologists at Nelson also said cleaning a handbag will help Wash cloth handbags and use leather cleaner to clean the bottom of leather handbags.

Quite gross! I never put my handbag on the floors in toilets; I used the hook or the handle on the door, but even the handle might be not a good spot. Sometimes I balanced it on top of the toilet paper holder.

I will be more aware now. Because I am a handbag-on-the-counter-thrower. Yuck!

Never apply this product in a moving vehicle.

DELIVERING means deliver the item (package) to the customer, not just filling out a card, getting out of the comfortable car, make one step to throw the card into the mailbox, to quickly get back into the comfortable car. Yes, I’ve seen how you guys work; last time when I was watching it by chance from my window. If you don’t know it yet, your package delivery SUCKS, dear Australia Post!

And because I don’t pay for bad service I won’t use Australia Post to deliver my packages from international any more. I’m done with it!!!!!!!!
It mostly is “you pay what you get”…next time I’d rather pay more, if I need to, to get my package delivered. And to be happy with it.

Nathan could also write at least one entry about the Australia Post as well. And I’m sure we’re not the only people being annoyed by the Australia Post service.

I’m thinking about de-installing my email notification plugin, which is sending you (if you’re a subscriber) an email when I wrote a new post. I only have two subscibers in it…It seems that email subscription is not very popular any more? Everyone just reads blog posts in feed readers or direct?
I try to minimize my plugins list…to run my blog a bit more smooth and faster.

Oh, wenn es heisst

dann habe ich wohl Sprue. Und wieder etwas dazu gelernt.

Aber ein Erfolgserlebnis hatte ich letztes Wochenende!!!
Ich habe gluten- und milchfreies Eis in einer Eisdiele in Perth gegessen!!!
Eine Sorte war Mangosorbet und die andere Sorte Sojaeis mit Stueckchen drin, die wie Schokokuchenteig schmeckten. Ich war mir ja nicht sicher, ob das Eis wirklich auch glutenfrei war…die asiatische Eisverkaeuferin zeigte uns ein DIN A 4 Blatt mit den Eissorten, die glutenfrei sein sollten…aber verstanden hat sie uns (sprachlich) nicht wirklich, glaube ich.
Egal, ich hatte jedenfalls keine Bauchschmerzen oder Aehnliches. Das Eis schmeckte prima! Es haette auch Milcheis sein koennen, denn ich habe den typischen Sojageschmack nicht auf der Zunge gehabt. Es hat naemlich total anders als das hiesige Sojaeis (z.B. “SoGood”) aus dem Supermarkt geschmeckt. Ich werde dann mal weiterhin die Augen fuer Eisdielen mit dairy-free and gluten-free ice cream in Perth Ausschau halten. Es besteht also doch noch Hoffnung.

In Australien gibt es die Daylight Savings Time (Zeitumstellung zum Sommer/Winter) nicht ueberall, was mir bisher neu war.

Daylight Saving Time is observed in New South Wales, Victoria, South Australia, Tasmania, and the Australian Capital Territory and has been synchronised across these states. Western Australia began a three year trial of daylight saving on 3 December 2006. Queensland and the Northern Territory do not observe daylight saving.

Across the south-eastern states and the ACT, daylight saving for future summers begins at 2am Eastern Standard Time on the first Sunday in October and ends at 2am Eastern Standard Time (3am summer time) on the first Sunday in April.

For Western Australia, daylight saving in 2008 will begin at 2am Western Standard Time on the last Sunday in October and end at 2am Western Standard Time (3am summer time) on the last Sunday in March 2009.

Da Perth sowieso die meisten Sonnenstrahlen abbekommt (“[Perth] hat mit im Durchschnitt acht Stunden Sonnenscheindauer pro Tag mehr als jede andere australische Stadt.”*), ist mir Daylight Savings eigentlich ziemlich egal.
